The Awutu-Effutu-Senya district directorate of Education and the District Assembly have put in place measures and programmes
to help improve the performance of pupils in basic schools in the district.
Among the programmes were organisation of capacity building workshops for teachers and vacation classes for SHS three students.
The Officer in-charge of Girls Child Education has also organised a number of meetings with parents and guardians on the need to offer the necessary supports to their school going children, especially the girl child to facilitate their education.
Last year, none of the children from four schools in the district scored between aggregates 6 and 30 to quality for admission to Senior high School in their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Addressing one of such workshops for 226 core subject teachers at Winneba, the district Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya Mr. Solomon Abbam Quaye urged teachers in the district to work hard to enable the children in the district to come out with flying colours in this year's examinations.
He said Core Subjects- English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies were needed for the grading of candidates and urged teachers in those fields to ensure that students passed those subjects very well.
He urged them to put all that they had leant into practice at their various schools and teach their students properly to overcome their shortcomings.
Mr. Daniel Kweku Arhin, District Director of Education expressed the hope that, now that enough preparation have been done by both teachers and pupils, the district would register the best results in the history of the district.
He appealed to parents to ensure that their children stay at home to study in order to pass their examinations.
Mr. Arhin commended Plan Ghana, an NGO based in the district for sponsoring the workshops.
