Residents of Asylum Down in Accra, have demanded increased police protection in the area, following the shooting of a 21-year-old biker over the weekend.
According to them, Saturday's incident is not the first time they have witnessed such a shooting in the area.
Increased police protection is therefore sorely needed to guarantee residents' safety.
Earlier reports suggested armed policemen on night patrol opened fire and shot the victim, Sadam Sulley Abdulai who was riding a motorbike with another, late Saturday after they defied an order by the policemen to stop.
He is said to have died instantly, but the police have denied killing him.
Speaking to Joy News' Beatrice Adu, some eyewitnesses claim the young man, who was shot, was an armed robber.
The police say Abdulai, who was seated on the back of the motorbike, in the late hours of Saturday, February 22, 2014, arrived at the bar and started shooting indiscriminately, killing a man drinking at the bar with a friend.
The friend of the one shot, also returned fire killing Abdulai, as the bikers attempted to escape from the scene. ters away from the bar.
Meanwhile, Greater Accra police public relations officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh told Joy FM Super Morning Show (SMS) that the police had information and had to quickly get to the scene to save the situation.
According to him, 11 people have been arrested as a result.
DSP Tetteh said two young men had reportedly gone to the Peace drinking spot in Asylum Down on an unregistered Hyundai motorbike and on getting there started shooting indiscriminately, killing one William Sarpong, 35 years, a security man with the Ghana Airport company, who died instantly.
"In an attempt to get away, just about 400 meters, the mob caught up with the motor riders and one of them managed to escape but the gentleman, Sadam Abdulai, 22 years, was caught up by the mob and lynched", DSP Tetteh noted, adding that it was later that the police were called in and the patrol team went to the scene of the incident.
Responding to threats from friends of Abdulai to retaliate the killing of Abdulai, DSP Tetteh said the police are fully armed to handle the situation.
The mother of the deceased, Mariama Abudulai, claims that when the incident happened, somebody called his younger son, Majeed and when he got to the scene, he met the police, who confirmed that they shot the elder brother, Sadam Sulley Abdulai.
