Sudan champions, Al-Merreikh has appointed former Black Stars coach Otto Pfister as head of the club.
The 76-year old ‘journeyman’ replaces compatriot Michel Kruger, whose appointed was terminated following the Omdurman based-club’s exit from the 2014 CAF Champions League, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Kampala City Council of Uganda at the prelims.
“The Board of Directors announces Otto Pfister as coach replacing fellow German Michel Kruger. The new coach will be in Khartoum in the coming days to begin his mission,” read a statement on the club’s website.
Pfister makes a return to Merrikh almost seven years after guiding ‘Al-Zaeem’ to the final of the 2007 CAF Confederation Cup, losing 5-2 on aggregate to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, as well as the Sudanese league crown the same year.
The German is no stranger in Africa with four appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, DR Congo and Ghana, to count.
He has also had stints in Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh with his last job being in charge of the Trinidad and Tobago national team between 2011 and 2012.
