Samir Nasri hopes the Capital One Cup is the first of four trophies he gets his hands on this season.
Nasri was on the scoresheet as Manchester City recovered from Fabio Borini’s opener to beat Sunderland 3-1 and lift the League Cup for the third time in the club’s history.
It was far from a vintage City performance at Wembley but individual brilliance – most notably Yaya Toure’s stunning 55th-minute equaliser – saw the favourites deservedly come out on top, with Nasri’s strike and a late Jesus Navas goal killing off the Black Cats’ brave resistance.
And Nasri feels Manuel Pellegrini’s men can kick on from here and collect the three remaining pieces of silverware up for grabs.
‘So much joy, so much pride as well. I lost the two finals that I played here before. Today it was really important to win,’ said the France international.
‘In the second half, we came with intention and scored three goals. I hope this cup is going to bring some others. We were still confident [at half-time]. We said we needed to stay calm and remain focused, play higher up and play with more tempo and that’s what we did.
‘We want to win everything. We’re going to compete for the league, the FA Cup and we’re going to try to make something in the Champions League. I hope this is going to bring confidence and we’ll fight until the end.’
Sunderland now turn their attentions back to their Premier League survival bid and an FA Cup quarter-final against Hull.
