The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) have agreed on a strategy aimed at controlling crime in the area following recent killings in the metropolis.
The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Isaac Odamten is cocksure that the strategies discussed with the IGP during a meeting in Tema, will address security concerns in the area.
Speaking to Joy News, Friday, the Tema MCE noted that police visibility including plain-cloth-wearing policemen in the Tema metropolis will be increased in the coming weeks.
Additionally, Mr. Odamten said the district police commanders are engaged in residence association education campaign to alert people on some security measures to take.
"This particular incident that happened in Community 4 is an unfortunate one but quickly, I hosted the IGP and have a solid plan on the ground to improve the police [presence in the metropolis].
The Tema MCE expressed worry about the recordings of several shooting incidents in the metropolis over the past few months as a result of which he would want to improve the security standard in the area and ensure that the environment is safe for the people.
Mr. Odamten also said the assembly is in the process of procuring street lights for communities that need them.
The MCE's reaction follows the request from some residents in the Tema metropolis, who spoke to Joy News for increased security protection from the police as they are living in fear as a result of the rampant shootings that the area has experienced in the past few months.
The killing of a businessman, Samuel Davis Ayuba, two days ago in Tema community four, adds up to the numbers of those, who have been killed under unknown circumstances.
Other killings that had occurred through bizarre circumstances include the-32-year-old Stanbic worker, Rosemond Nyampong, 36-year-old immigration officer, Kofi Quist Defor and Music Producer, Fenec Okyere.
The rest include Akosombo Branch Manager of the Zenith Bank, Mr. Kwesi Sakyi Prah and Rocco Frimpong.
