The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Mahama says the party will embark on a comprehensive expansion of the energy resources of the country.
The NDC, he said has a plan that will make it possible for the Tema Oil Refinery to double its output.
Mr. Mahama was speaking at an energy forum organised for presidential aspirants by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The Bole/Bamboi MP said the electricity generation capacity of the country will be increased from the current 1,600 megawatts to 5000 megawatts.
That, he said will help an NDC government to produce low cost electricity and meet the energy needs of industry.
Luv FM’s Sampson Lardi Ayenini reported Mr. Mahama as saying that if elected, the NDC will create abundant energy and ensure that the country becomes a net exporter of electricity again.
According to him, Mr. Mahama charged the government to come clear on what it is doing on the TOR debt which is in excess of $500 million.
According to the NDC running mate, the debt owed to the Ghana Commercial Bank was threatening the sovereignty of the bank.
He also blamed recent past energy crisis that hit the country on the neglect of the NPP government.
