The Extension Services Coordinator of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) has asked the Minister of Local Government and Rural development to measure the success of the District Chief Executives by how clean their districts are.
Theodora Adomako-Adjei thinks that measuring their success through that means will push the DCEs to commit most of their resources towards getting a cleaner, healthier Ghana.
“I am saying that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural development should start using improvement in sanitation at District as one of the indicators to assess the performance of District Chief Executives.” She adds that “we have to step out of our comfort zone.
Let the Minister task them to do something about the situation and give them timelines. Let the Ministry of Local Government and Rural developments do regular follow ups to demand results.”
Speaking on Clean Communities on Joy News, Multi TV, she also suggested the institution of a league system on sanitation as another means of getting the communities clean as no community will want to be last on the league log.
“Let us have a kind of league table in the country. Let us publish it. Let us make it public. This is the league table and this district is on top because the sanitation situation is ok. This district is at the bottom because the sanitation situation is bad”. Mrs. Adomake-Adjei also called on corporate Ghana to get involved in the fight for cleaner environments.
