The Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Bernard Dery has cautioned the public against the use of specified explosives during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
He said under the Executive Instrument (EI) 21 of 1999, it was illegal to manufacture or posses any explosive including fire crackers (knockouts), displayed shells, artillery shells and ball and canister shells among others.
ACP Dery said anybody found manufacturing or possessing any such explosives would be liable to summary conviction of a fine not exceeding 5 million cedis or imprisonment to a term not exceeding 12 months, or both.
He mentioned bottle rockets and missiles, floral shells, handle cylindrical fountains, ground spinners, handing wheels and onward wheels as exemptions.
ACP Dery advised persons in possession of the prohibited explosives to deposit them at the nearest Police Station for registration and proper storage.
ACP Dery said the prohibition was to ensure an incident free Yuletide.Source: GNA
