SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE A MOTHERLESS CHILD

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

Away from his long roam in the wild

He came home to abide

And we, with him, this day reside

As mother, father and child

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

And cooked me a meal with all his skill

Though it tasted less than mother’s feel

I still loved his zeal and pleasant appeal

To me, it is the real deal

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

And taught me to knot a tie

So I dressed up and stepped out looking fly

Marching up in spirits so high

I smiled so wide and people wondered why

Oh yes, yes, my daddy made me a “guy-guy”!

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

Never to be abandoned in the wild

For unlike his pals, daddy attended my PTA

Guided me to turn all my “D’s” into “A’s”

Grateful I am, for the debt he paid:

Fat appetite for beer-domedo-others down-laid

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

Whipping me to make me sadder

He resumed duty as my home barber

Bought me sweet-fine ‘shada’

And told tales like none other

His tongue twisting like a ship’s rudder

Nothing could put us asunder

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

For when my mother went to the market Papa made me his target

Placing me in care’s bracket

I feared no scare

For my father was ready to repair!

Oh! sometimes I feel like a motherless child

Because my father came back to his child

The joy I bear is impeccable

The toys he brought are indispensible

And though my mother is unforgettable And highly irreplaceable

My father really makes me feel like a motherless child

Happy father’s daddy!
