The Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Monday announced that its 8th Quadrennial Delegates' Congress would be held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, from August 10-14.In a press statement signed by Mr. Kofi Asamoah, Acting Secretary General of the TUC, it said the delegates' congress would be under the theme; "Social Protection for All, A Pre-requisite for Consolidating Democratic Governance - The Role of Trade Unions".It would be attended by 1,000 delegates and observers representing the 17 affiliated National Unions, Associate Member Unions from the informal economy and guests from international organizations and trade unions.The statement said President John Agyekum Kufuor was expected to address the plenary session and a special session would be created for presidential candidates for this year's December election to address and interact with delegates. It said the congress would elect a five-member Executive Committee, which would compose of a Secretary General and Deputy, Chairperson of the TUC and two Vice-Chairpersons. There would also be an election of a nine-member Finance Board.The congress would consider proposals for the amendment of the TUC Constitution as well as adoption of resolutions and policy proposals for the next quadrennial, 2008-2012, the statement added. 4 Aug. 08Source: GNA
