The chief executive of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TAMA), Mohammed Amin Anta says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is hatching a plot to oust him from office ahead of the December parliamentary elections.
Mr Anta who is also the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Tamale Central constituency said as part of the plot, the metropolis would be hit by a series of demonstrations until he is removed from office.
The metro chief executive however quick to firm his status: “I am the metro chief executive; I’ll continue to be a metro chief executive until the President removes me.”
Speaking to journalists in Tamale, he claimed he had received intelligence reports from the security agencies that suggested that key members of the NDC from Accra had met in the city (Tamale) to hatch the plot.
He said he had learnt the NDC members claimed he would use his authority to steal the parliamentary elections.
Mr Dan Botwe, the research director of Nana Addo campaign team, on whose instance the briefing was organised did not touch on the issue.
He was rather concerned with reports from around the country about the bussing and registration of minors.
Mr Botwe proposed an inter-party advisory committee to look into the issue and bring to book those masterminding it.
The ongoing voters registration programme has been rocked with a plethora of problems, reports from around the country indicate.
Both the NPP and NDC trade accusations blaming each other of being behind the minors’ registration.
Although the Electoral Commission says it is aware of the situation it claims it has no resources to nib the ills in the bud. It has however promised taking legal action against the perpetrators.
