Before Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, embarked on his Eastern Regional tour, many were those who had spread the news that the Zongo communities in the country were anti-New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Contrary to that perception, when Dr Bawumia and his campaign team embarked on a four-day tour of Zongo communities in the Eastern Region, the story there was completely different.
Some of the songs composed by the Zongo supporters of NPP at the Afram Plains north Constituency went this way: “Ehe edwo bodoo yempe bio afei die yeni abue ” literally meaning, we don’t want NDC any longer, our eyes are opened. This they sang in addition to the “We are moving forward” and “Go Go High” songs that have become synonymous with the NPP.
At the Nkawkaw Zongo, the crowd was so large that the security personnel on duty found it very difficult controlling them.
Addressing the people, Dr Bawumia explained that the kind of freedom, development and socially enhanced programmes which have been implemented by the NPP were clear indications that it was the only government and political tradition which has what it takes to drive Ghana to the land flowing with milk and oil.
In the first four years of Nana Akufo Addo’s term of office, Dr Bawumia stressed that over one billion new jobs would be created, as well as expansion of the national economy to compete with the rest of the world and modernize the Ghanaian society.
Therefore, he warned that it was suicidal for Ghanaians to make the mistake of voting for any other party other than the NPP in this year’s elections since, it was the only visionary party among the lot in the December polls.
Dr. Bawumia further stated that the NPP was battle ready to continue the firm foundation laid by the Kufuor-led administration and assured the gathering that plans were far advanced to strategically improve Ghana’s education which was the engine of growth for every nation which aspires to catch up with the advanced world.
Dr Bawumia also promised to offer his selfless, committed and hardworking service to propel the socio-economic transformation of Ghana.
Earlier, he and his campaign team addressed similar rallies at Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains South constituency and the Atibie Zongo communities.
Alhaji Abdul Karim Grunsah, who is part of the team, tasked Moslems to support the NPP to tactically and beautifully transform the country. He wondered why such communities had continued to shun the NPP over the years, even though the NDC had failed to improve their living conditions.
Alhaji Grunsah challenged them to go back to their roots since the NPP was originally known as the Northern People’s Party and it sought to work to better the lives of all Ghanaians irrespective of their social, cultural, educational and religious backgrounds.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Yaw Amoabeng Gyekye asked the people to critically analyse and compare the records of all competing parties in the December polls and vote for the progressive one.
Other people who addressed the gathering included Mr. Stephen Ntim, former First Vice Chairman of NPP, Seth Acheampong, the parliamentary candidate for Mpraeso and NPP candidate for Afram Plains and Mr. George Ofori, NPP constituency chairman for Afram Plains and Mr. Ampofo Twumasi the Deputy Energy Minister.
