Africa rising, a chorus that resurfaced this week, ran through the speeches of some forty African heads of state and their American counterparts at a summit in Washington D.C.
There is nothing wrong with that chorus until you consider the following:
The scourge of Ebola is ravaging the West African Sub-region, encouraged by failing health systems.
Infected persons are left to rot on the streets of Liberia, while West African leaders have failed to fully honor their pledge to invest in an Ebola fund.
The West, in the meantime, have once again demonstrated triumph in the war against the disease, although they are the least hit.
Ghana is going back for an IMF bailout just ten years after the country’s debt was wiped off.
Cholera, a disease that should be walk over in terms of prevention, is killing dozens amidst suffocating filth.
Is Africa rising? Or it is a hopeless continent masked by years of western flattery?
This was the theme for Friday’s edition of Ghana Connect, with host Evans Mensah and his guests.
