One died on the spot while the remaining lost their lives shortly after admission, the Central Regional Hospital has confirmed.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the VW Golf vehicle who appeared drunk was driving at top speed when he lost control of the steering wheel, veered off its lane and hit the pedestrians who were walking on the shoulders of the road. Some of the victims were trapped under a fallen electricity pole after the car had run into.
The Central Regional MTTU command’s account suggested that, one of the victims, a woman, who was trapped under the car bled profusely to her death.
The four victims excluding the student whose name was given as Linda Pinkrah, a prospective SHS 2 student, were all relatives of the Principal of the Cape Coast Nurses and Midwifery College.
