Renowned Ghanaian undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has signed an exclusive two-year deal with the Emmy, BAFTA, and Peabody award-winning production company Insight TWI: The World Investigates.
Insight and Anas have previously collaborated on award-winning documentaries for Al Jazeera English, in which Anas’ exposes included the Tanzanian trade in albino limbs, money laundering in the Seychelles Islands, murder-for-hire of Ghanaian children, and high-level corruption in Sierra Leone.
Anas, an investigative journalist who has never shown his face in public, is renowned globally for his undercover skills. He delivered a headline TED Talk in San Francisco last year called “How I Named, Shamed, and Jailed” and was praised by U.S. President Barack Obama in 2009 as “a courageous journalist who risked his life to tell the truth.”
Anas joins Emmy-winning Sierra Leonean journalist Sorious Samura to cover Africa for Insight. The International Press Institute praised Samura and Anas this year as “kings of investigative reporting in Africa.”
“We will continue to work with Anas to name, shame, and jail bad guys around the world and to produce award-winning investigations for broadcasters and online,” said Samura.
Insight’s Editor-in-Chief, Ron McCullagh, said the deal sets the stage for a major production effort focused on local investigative journalists around the world. “Anas spearheaded Africa Investigates, which we produced for Al Jazeera English,” said McCullagh. “He’s a potent player and we have big plans together. Soon you’ll be hearing about The World Investigates.”
