The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) yesterday announced the names of persons nominated to receive awards at its 13th Awards ceremony at the Banquet Hall, State House, tomorrow.
A statement signed by GJA General Secretary, Bright Blewu, said award winners in the competitive category are: Mr Innocent Appiah, Ghanaian Times, Mrs Loretta Vanderpuje of Ghana Television, Mr John Vigah of The Ghanaian Times and Nii Laryea Korle of Graphic Showbiz.
Others are Mr Edward Nyarko and Mrs Clare Banoeng-Yakubu, both of Ghana Television, Mrs Hadiza Huhu Billa-Quansah of Junior Graphic, Mr Samuel Dowuona of the Daily Graphic, Mr Merari Alomele of The Spectator and Mr William Asiedu of The Mirror.
Honorary award winners are Mr Akoto Ampaw, private legal practitioner, Mr Harry Mouzalas (posthumous), former General Secretary of the GJA, Mr Shaw Quaye Adibi, former Deputy General Secretary of the GJA, Mrs Getrude Opare-Addo, retired broadcast journalist and Mr Christian Aggrey, retired editor of The Ghanaian Times.
The rest are Alhaji Razak El-Alawa, three-time Journalists of the Year, Mr Mike Atsutse, retired print journalist and Mr Benjamin Entwi, retired News Agency journalist and public relations practitioner.
Mr Dan Botwe and Mrs Oboshie Sai-Cofie, both former Ministers of Information will receive special honorary awards.
Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will also receive a special award.
The annual GJA awards event was instituted to honour deserving journalists whose work contributed to the promotion of excellence in journalism in a particular year.
The awards ceremony, the GJA’s flagship event, is used to acknowledge individuals, media houses and organisations that have in one way or the other contributed significantly to the development of the media.
