The construction of an office complex to house the Kpone District Police Headquarters has come to a halt due to lack of funds. The Kpone Traditional Council (KTC) provided the one-acre land and contributed about GH¢60,000 towards the office complex estimated to cost over GH¢100,000 with the expectation that stakeholders would contribute towards its completion. When completed, the building would have a Criminal Investigations Department, Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, orderly room, reception and Divisional Commander's office.Mr Harry Attipoe, Registrar of the KTC revealed this on Wednesday when he led pressmen to tour the facility. The project commenced in September this year and was expected to be completed within two months. About 60 percent of the work has so far been completed.Mr Attipoe said even though it was not the responsibility of the Council to provide a befitting office for the police, they found it important to do so since the Police Service has been operating from a rented apartment at Kpone for the past 45 years. He explained that the apartment could not house both the station and the district headquarters, adding that, the town attained a police district status last year.According to the Registrar, companies, organizations and individuals have relented in fulfilling their promises to contribute to the project, which would benefit the entire society especially the companies that spent a lot of money engaging the services of security officers to protect their properties.Mr Attipoe stated however that, the Ghana National Association of Garages, Free Zone Board, Aluworks Ghana Limited, Sambao Pharmaceutical Ghana Limited, Myroc Salt Industries Limited and Mr George Kumodji have contributed a total of GH¢3,500 and 50 bags of cement to the project.Mr Attipoe said the KTC had invested about GH¢ 60,000 in the project and pleading with stakeholders to willingly contribute their quota towards the successful completion of the project. He added that the Council has initiated a two-storey building project which was being constructed concurrently with the office project to serve as a residential unit for the personnel and the district commander.Source: GNA
