We can actually find love in different ways and unexpected places, you know. But don’t be surprised when what you thought would likely happen turns upside down. It’s part of the discovery. Today, I’ll share with you a conversation I eavesdropped whilst at a restaurant. It happened on a vivid Tuesday evening.
I had had such a wonderful working day so I decided to have a treat at an extra ordinary restaurant. I was alone. Yeah, I didn’t have a date. Smiles. And as I sat behind two ladies, I begun hearing stuff about their romantic sprees that got me stuck and I didn’t want to leave till they were done. Let me replay the conversation back to you as it unfolded.
Yaa: It was a Monday morning and obviously the least to experience was to have butterflies in my stomach. But you know, sometimes your feelings can get out of your control; the more I cautioned them to calm down, the more they exposed me. A gentleman in a blue shirt with big and beautiful eyes… Aha, and to add; with a chocolate skin walked into my office. The moment I saw him, my heart jumped out of me; ‘such a handsome man’. I said. His presence made such an incredible and a memorable impression in my spirit.
Asor: Really? Tell me what happened?
Yaa: You know, I didn’t want to show my feelings so much and worst of all, he was accompanied by our HR executive, Mr. Ampofo. He introduced him as the new guy to manage our branch at East Legon.
Asor: Mhmm
Yaa: Few weeks later, the chemistry between the two of us begun to grow.
Asor: But I thought you said he wasn’t going to be in your office?
Yaa: Yes. I said that, but he comes there every Tuesday and Thursday to have meetings with the HR.
One Thursday, I stepped out to get tissue from the washroom when I bumped into him. It was a cool afternoon. I shyly took off my eyes but he held my hands, pulled me back to him and said. ‘Do you know that I wanna be your man?’ I smiled and left.
Asor: And how did he know you weren’t going out?
Yaa: Hahaha. We had spoken about that.
Eii, Yaa. ‘A lot of stuff has been going on under the carpet without my knowledge’. Asor said disappointingly.
Yaa: Well, Asor, the length and breath of it is he finally proposed officially and I turned him down.
Asor: You what?
Yaa: You know, I wasn’t so sure of him and I didn’t want to be a victim of office romance which could be devastating in terms of your reputation and ability to work. But the interesting thing is, I realized two months after I turned him down that my feelings kept growing for him so I called him to come home so we could talk. He did and he told me because I turned him down, he wasn’t kind of fully in again. We talked about it for weeks and he decided to come to my house again. When he was leaving that day, he turned back, held my neck and gave me one of the shortest but most passionate kisses I’ve ever had in my life. That night, I knew his heart was getting back into this. He came around in two weeks time and that kiss was extended. Oh, I’m even shy. It wasn’t so much of a French kiss but we locked our lips with so much passion.
Asor: Aaand?
‘Nothing happened next!’ Yaa said with a smirk on her face knowing Asor was being mischievous.
Oh meehn. And when Yaa talked about she and her lover locking their lips in that passionate kiss, I smiled and then called the bar man to bring me an Irish cream to console my lonely soul. Then I felt some electricity pass through me; from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet. Okay. Let’s continue with Yaa and Asor.
Asor: Yaa. Hold on. You know I got married two months ago right? Tell you how my man found me? He came to my desk complaining my bank was not treating him right and he had bla bla bla issues. And as a customer care person with this reputable bank, I wanted to serve him well. He came over and again until we became friends. For me, my most passionate kiss was on my wedding night. You would want to imagine and witness that! It was a mixture of French, Ghanaian, British and American Kiss. …..Hold; do we even have that? Hahaha. What happened next is none of your business. Aha so how did yours go?
Yaa: Well, after all these experiences, I’ve felt really strongly that we should marry but he says he’s not ready yet. What I found is that, prior to his meeting me, he had been in this relationship with a girl from his school days. They broke up and just when he thought of falling in love again, she showed up and now his heart has gone back to his first love. I think I found love and I don’t want to let him go. Not because we had such wonderful kissing experiences but because I think he’s God fearing and he’s got the qualities I look for in a man. Now he’s pulling away because of the old girl. I believe God can change things around. But what if he’s probably not the perfect guy for me from God’s perspective?
Asor: Hmmm. This is a difficult one. But I’ll be with you in prayers.
Ouch. At this point, I packed my bags and left the bar praying that Yaa will find the man of her dreams or perhaps a miracle would happen with this guy in her company. Anything can happen especially when you believe. As for Asor, I’ll be forever happy for her.
