Two people have died and 53 are currently on admission at various hospitals in the Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region following an outbreak of cholera.

There are fears the numbers may rise due to the insanitary conditions in most communities in the municipality.

Joy News’ Volta Region Correspondent Ivy Setordjie reports the situation is dire.

The Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service in the Ketu South Municipality Joseph Degla in an interview with Setordjie attributed the two deaths to delays in bringing the affected persons to the hospital.

He said the Service has brought in medicine to fight the epidemic in the Municipality.

He said they are carrying out a campaign to educate the people about the need for a clean environment and also on what to do if one is affected by cholera.

The Cholera outbreak is gradually going nationwide after Accra, Ashanti and Western regions recorded their own cholera related deaths.

Accra has had the highest casualty with over 40 deaths and 5000 reported cases.
