A teenage boy was arrested on Sunday morning for allegedly raping a 60-year-old woman in Dutywa, Eastern Cape police said.
Captain Lingisile Magama said the 14-year-old grade seven pupil kicked opened the old woman's door on Saturday night while she was asleep with her grandson in Tyholomi, a village in the Gwadana area.
"He knocked but as the old woman asked who was at the door, he kicked open the door, assaulted her with a stone on the forehead and pushed her back into bed," Magama said.
The boy then allegedly demanded money from the old woman and when she did not give him any, he instructed her to undress herself and ordered the woman's young grandson to go back to sleep.
"He then raped her to his satisfaction. Thereafter, he searched for the money until he found the woman's wallet and helped himself to some cash in it," he said.
After robbing the old woman, the teenage boy fled the scene but was soon arrested as the old woman knew who he was.
Police pounced on him while he sleeping at his home on Sunday morning.
He was expected to appear in the Dutywa magistrate's court on Monday.
