An International Finance Corporation certified trainer in Corporate Governance, Marian Barnor has commended management of the Multimedia Group for ensuring that its staff is well vested in the subject.
More than 30 journalists and programme producers at Multimedia have been selected to undergo a two-day capacity building to better understand the intricacies of the Corporate Governance (CG) system as well as reporting on such issues.
Mrs. Barnor, who is facilitating the training, insisted that because the CG permeates all facets of society, the media should endeavour to promote it while exposing wrong doings in such business environments.
She further described the media as the only unique channel through which reforms and awareness could be engineered and therefore, urged journalists to improve upon their skills in that direction.
Corporate Governance, Mrs. Barnor explained, is a system by which companies are directed and controlled to bring about a balance between economic and social goals.
It also encourages the efficient use of resources, accountability in the use of power and stewardship, and also aligning the interests of individuals, companies and society as a whole.
Modules treated on the first day of training, Tuesday in Accra included: Understanding the role of Journalists in Corporate Governance, and being the watchdog in society; the role of the Board; Business case for good Corporate Governance practice and Investigating, Reporting on Corporate Governance.
