Open defecation is still a practice in several communities along the beaches in the Keta and Ketu south municipalities of the Volta Region.
Joy News visit to some of the beaches reveals that several people indulge in the practice with impunity.
The phenomenon is all the more worrying in the wake of the cholera epidemic that has hit several parts of the country.
Joy News' Volta Region correspondent Ivy Setordjie named Blekusu as the worst culprit in the practice of open defecation.
Some of the residents who spoke to Setordjie, said the public toilets are located too far from the residents.
They complain the facility is unkempt and could be a major health hazard for them.
"The stench at that public toilet is even more dangerous to our health than using the sea side.
"When we use this place it is very convenient for us. The fresh air is good for us," one of the residents said.
Another said: "I have just finished doing the something and i feel very good when i do it than going to the public toilet."
He appealed to the government to provide some public toilets in the area in order for them to use.
Ivy Setordzie who took a little trip down the sea side said the stench is unbearable.
According to her, human excreta had been dotted all over the beach area which is a nasty spectacle.
