The NDC will review ACT 2 on Land Development (Protection) of the Purchaser, enacted during the First Republic on lands in Accra and its environs, if it wins the 2008 Elections. Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie-Komme, MP for Odododiodioo, stated this at an NDC rally at Bombay in the Korle Wonkor Electoral Area in Accra on Wednesday. Under the law, any land developer in Accra and its environs to the lintel level automatically becomes the owner of the plot. He said the law applied only to Accra and its environs, which affected the Ga-Dangbe people alone. Mr Nii Tackie-Komme described the law as discriminatory and an NDC government will review it as contained in the manifesto of the party. He noted that lands acquired by government for public use but had not been used for the purpose intended should be returned to the original owners. According to Mr Nii Tackie-Komme, such lands should not be given to private developers as was the case now under the NPP government. Mr Benjamin Nii Ayikuma Okai popularly known as Teacher Nii Nii, former NDC parliamentary aspirant, urged party members to work harder to win votes for the NDC. He said this would enable the NDC presidential candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills to form the next government and for the party to retain the seat. Mr. Walid Laryea also former NDC parliamentary aspirant, said since Prof. Atta Mills would need many NDC MPs to support him to implement his plans to redeem the people from the current economic hardship they should rally behind Nii Tackie Komme to retain the seat for the NDC. Mr Daniel Okai, Constituency Chairman, advised the people not to sell their conscience to people who would try to influence them with money. He said NDC had information that a political party had plans to influence supporters of the NDC, especially its polling agents to ensure that it retained power in Election 2008. Mr Okai stressed that party's polling agents should be vigilant and take their training seriously to avoid rigging during the elections. He called on the people to compare the records of the NDC with that of the NPP and vote for the NDC to end the socio-economic problems that they were facing. Mr. Festus Bekoe, constituency vice chairman, described the third position of the NDC on the ballot for the election as "Divine intervention" since in traditional parlance consultation with the elders is deemed to be perfect after a third time. He also pointed out that the tradition earth cooking stove had three moulds to make the utensil stable in the kitchen. Mr Addo Quaynor, constituency propaganda secretary, accused the government of paying lip service to education and health delivery since they had become unbearable for the people. Source: GNA
