The heavy downpour in Accra on Tuesday has claimed the life of a- nine-year-old school girl of the Nungua-SDA basic school in the Ledzokuku-Krowor municipality.
The pupil (name withheld) was reported to have accidentally fallen into the gutter which had overflown its banks after the rains when she was returning home from extra-classes and attempted to cross it.
Narrating the incident to the DAILY HERITAGE at the scene, the father of the deceased, gutted by the news, said he discovered her daughter was not at home when he returned from work that fateful day.
Mr. Okloe said he was informed by a schoolmate of her daughter's fatal fell into the gutter's fast-flowing flood. He subsequently reported the matter to the Nungua police.
Mr. Okloe said he later had a call Wednesday that the flood had deposited a body at Nungua A-Life junction. An eyewitness, Frank Ofori, saw the body close to his shop and raised an alarm.
When the Heritage got to the scene at 8:30am, the body of the little girl was lying in a gutter surrounded by a crowd.
The rains which lasted for about seven hours uninterrupted, has caused a predictable loss in properties.
