A 30-year-old mobile phone repairer, Desmond Adekula, on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with conspiracy to and robbbery of a trader of his personal belongings at gun point.
Adekula and two others now at large robbed Mr Kweku Bonsu when he joined them in a taxi cab from Santa Maria to the Accra-Tema Motorway in the early hours of July 15, last year.
Adekula was spotted by his victim at a drinking spot at Santa Maria a day after the incident and he was arrested.
He has pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy but denied the charge of robbery.
The court, presided over by Mr Iddrisu Mahamadu remanded him into prison custody to reappear on December 3.
Chief Inspector R.K. Dzogbeti told the court that on July 15, last year, Mr Bonsu left his home around 0400 to visit his brother at Koforidua.
He boarded a taxi cab which had three passengers, including Adekula, but as soon as Mr Bonsu joined them one of the occupants who was armed with a cutlass ordered him to hand over his bag while the other two occupants alighted.
The prosecution said Adekula who was holding a locally manufactured gun and his accomplices engaged him in a struggle and snatched his bag.
They then subjected Bonsu to a thorough search while Adekula pointed the gun at him. They managed to rob him of his mobile phone and cash of GH¢ 100 and sped off in the waiting taxi.
The prosecution said the following day Mr Bonsu met Adekula at a drinking spot and identified him since he did not wear any mask during the robbery.
