Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children Affairs (MOWAC) on Thursday urged women to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to continue its good policies for women and children.
She said the NPP government in its eight years of office had instituted numerous policies such as the School Feeding Programme (SFP), Free Maternal Care, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Capitation Grant and Micro Credit for women which sought to cushion women and children.
The Minister said this when she paid a working visit to traders at the Mallam Atta market and to solicit for their votes in the forth-coming presidential and parliamentary elections.
She said, due to the various policies by the NPP government, school enrolment had doubled whiles women who went to deliver and were detained for non-payment of bills had become a thing of the past.
Hajia Mahama said there had also been a growth of women participation in governance adding, "For the first time in the history of the nation, a female has been appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The number of female Ministers had increased to seven and 12 deputy ministers respectively".
She called on the women to advise their wards not to allow any group of persons to influence them to engage in any violent activities that would hamper the peace of the nation before and after the elections.
