Passengers on the Akim Oda-Abenase road in the Eastern Region, have appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), to fill the potholes and repair the damaged portions of the road.
They warned of possible accidents if immediate steps were not taken by the authorities.
The passengers classified the Akim Oda - Abenase stretch of the road forming part of the Akim Oda - New Abirem Highway, as “a death trap” and the most dangerous portion.
The passengers expressed their fears through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Oda Nkwanta.
The GNA noted that the tarred portion of the road from Akim Oda to Ayirebi had developed deep potholes, which does not augur well for drivers, especially in the night.
Also, the untarred portion of the road from Ayirebi to New Abirem is very dusty and blinds the drivers causing accidents.
The passengers appealed to the contractor working on the road to hasten the completion of the project.
Mr Reginald Sackey, assembly member for Essam, who is also a driver, told the GNA that if the situation is not addressed immediately, coupled with the on-going torrential rains, the Akim Oda - New Abirem road would not only be rendered impassable, but also completely cut off from the rest of the eastern sector, he said.
When the GNA called at the Ofoase offices of the District Chief Executive of the newly created Akyemansa district, to find out about the road, the DCE was said to have travelled.
