The Sunyani and Cape Coast Polytechnics have been accredited by the National Accreditation Board to run bachelor’s degree programme in Building Technology.
The programme duration is 18 months consisting of three semesters. It is structured in such a way that the students spend the first semester on campus, go out on internship with the construction industry for the second semester and return to campus for the last semester to complete the programme.
The accreditation follows a capacity building programme initiated by the Netherlands government through the Netherlands Universities Foundation for international Co-operation (NUFFIC) and the Netherlands Programme for the Institutional strengthening of Post-Secondary Education and Training Capacity.
Under the programme, staff of the B-Tech departments of the polytechnics were offered scholarships to study in the Netherlands and in Ghana. They pursued bachelor’s master’s and PhD degrees.
Plans are far advanced to start a Masters of Building Technology (M-Tech) programme in the two institutions.
