Right Reverend Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday urged Christians to abstain from indiscipline, carelessness, greed and unhealthy ambitions, in order to win God's favour and overcome challenges of life. He said "It is our responsibility as Christians to repent of our failures to give a lead to the nation in relation to justice, unity and liberty. The challenges of our times do call us to repent and live godly lives so as to receive the favour of the messiah when he comes with healing, restoration, deliverance and justice". Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso was preaching the sermon at a thanksgiving service, organized by the Accra New-Town District of the Church, on the theme "Let us go on to maturity-Break camp and advance", to mark its 30th anniversary celebration. He advised Ghanaians to change from uncertainties that militated against their forward march and dependence on God. He said "When we are too comfortable with things in our lives, or perhaps have accepted the compromises for too long, it becomes difficult for us to make the necessary changes to re-align ourselves with God's will.” Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso said that in the Bible, the Israelites spent 40 years in the wilderness on a journey that should have lasted 11 days, and explained that this was as a result of the condition of their hearts and even disobedience. He said through daily prayers, Bible studies, adherence to matters of faith and covenants made at baptism and in the temple, Christians would be able to grow up into maturity in the Lord. Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso urged the District Church to work hard and meet the needs of its congregations in order to justify its existence in a multi religious and ethnic community. He said "Even though Ghana has enjoyed to a greater extent, the peace of the Lord, we still have to share in the calamities that have befallen some parts of the world. We have witnessed various degrees of motor accidents, loss of jobs, poverty and hunger, broken marriages, human rights abuse, desertion, disunity and rancour even in our democratic experience". Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso said it was through the witnessing of God's glory that these challenges in life can be overcome. Rev. Kwabena Asare Ayeh, Minister in charge of Accra New-Town District Church, said it would work hard to establish more schools and Churches in order to win more souls for Christ.
