The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has debunked speculations that the party is buying time to secure a place in the next government.
The party in a press statement issued on Saturday 13 December said it would remain neutral and not support any of the political parties contesting the December 28 run-off.
Speculations have however been rife that the Nkrumaist fraternity could have taken such a position ostensibly to engage in talks with either of the two parties to secure certain favours in the next government.
But speaking to the Super Morning Show on Joy FM on Monday, chairman of the CPP, Mr Ladi Nylander maintained “we have to be aware of what is happening around us and be able to push the party’s position.”
He emphasised that the CPP has many options on the table and could soon declare a stance for either the NPP or the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, presidential candidate of the party, had been working with the ruling NPP as public sector reform minister. The CPP also campaigned on theme of change, what the NDC widely touted as the “yere sasamu” campaign refrain.
Mr Nylander maintained that any alignment with a political party would only be on the platform of parliament and would purely be “issues-based.”
The party chairman said the CPP has its own ideals which it believes in and would not compromise such party values for political expediency.
