Joy News’ checks have revealed that there is a gas shortage in parts of the capital, Saturday.
Some gas stations located in Dansoman, Odorkor, Dome and other communities at the time of Joseph Opoku Gakpo’s visit had displayed “No Gas” signs.
Managers of the Go Gas station at Kawukudi said they had not had gas since yesterday and customers who went out looking for gas were sent away.
The few stations which had gas were overwhelmed by long queues of gas consumers who have been looking for the product since yesterday.
Managers of some of the stations said they are unsure why the situation is so. They explained that they had requested for gas from their suppliers but had not received any supplies.
From what Joy News gathered, there is an ongoing exercise to replace a pipeline between the Tema habour and the area around the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) where gas is delivered.
The replacement of the pipelines has been going on for a week ad as a result of that, the delivery of gas through the pipelines has not been possible.
Public Relations Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Yaro Kasambata downplayed the shortage saying that even though there is an ongoing exercise to replace the pipeline, there is enough gas in the system to satisfy customers.
He said there is about 3,000 metric tonnes of gas at TOR which will be made available for distribution by Monday.
