Muslims across the country have held national prayers to mark Eid Ul Adha, the festival of sacrifice.
Addressing a congregation at the Jubilee Park in Takoradi, Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur advised Muslims to portray the unconditional obedience of Prophet Ibrahim and peaceful messages the Qur'an teaches.
He said it was important for Muslims to adhere to the teachings of the Qur'an and lead the faithful life the Prophet Ibrahim lived in order to receive full blessings from Allah.
The Eid Ul Adha festival is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismael (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah.
Mr Arthur reiterated the call to various religious faiths to maintain the prevailing religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence that exist in the country.
He said without peace the country will not be able to provide the basic amenities that are needed to lead productive lives
“Let us in our mind remember that it is the unconditional obedience of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son and the teachings of the Qur'an offered guidance on how the faithful could receive abundant blessings and favour from Allah”.
He advised the youth to shun indiscipline, criminality, immorality and endeavor to live in peace while remembering the lessons of sacrifice, obedience and love taught by Islam.
