UEFA has renewed its agreement with betting fraud monitoring service Sportradar for another four years. The new agreement will also see Sportradar provide e-learning services to the confederation in the battle to contain one of the biggest threats to the integrity of the game.
"For UEFA, the fight against match-fixing is a top priority because an attempt to fix a football match strikes right at the soul of our sport," said UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino. "We are aware via the UEFA Betting Fraud Detection System that 0.7% of the 30,000+ matches monitored annually present some suspicion, but even one match is one too many."
The new agreement was announced today at the Leaders Sport Business Summit in London. Sportradar has been monitoring betting movements on European football matches since 2006.
Sportradar uses its UEFA Betting Fraud Detection System (BFDS) to monitor the top two professional football leagues and domestic cup competitions in each of UEFA's 54 member associations, the new agreement going through to the summer of 2019. The BFDS system is also in operation in the AFC and CONCACAF confederations.
Sportradar's Fraud Prevention Service e-learning tutorials will be rolled out to all teams and players participating in the UEFA's Men's and Women's Under-19 and Under-17 final tournaments over the next four seasons.
Sportradar CEO Carsten Koerl added: "UEFA were one of our first partners and in the last eight years, they have constantly helped us refine our system and increase its effectiveness...By adding our e-learning tutorials to the services we provide to UEFA, we will be able to front some of UEFA's key preventive measures, aimed in this case specifically at the most talented youngsters playing in Europe."
