The Black Queens of Ghana were piped by a goal to nil in the ongoing CAF Women’s Championship in Namibia on Sunday.
Substitute Horiya Affak’s late goal was all that the Algerians needed to snatch all the three maximum points.
The first half which was fairly balanced failed to produce any goal and after the first half break, the Algerians were slightly on top, but they had to wait until the 87 minute, when Horiya Affak scored the only goal after coming on to replace Imene Merrouche in the 65 minute.
Although the Black Queens created some chances upfront, they were shy infront of goal.
Yusif Basigi’s team will face South Africa on Wednesday in their second group game. South Africa also lost their opener against Cameroon.
Ghana did two substitutions; Agnes Aduaku replaced Faiza Ibrahim in the 65 minute, while Diana Ankomah came on for Leticia Zikpi.
The winner and the runner-up in the ongoing finals in Namibia will join the rest of the World in Canada for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be staged in 2015
The Black Queens were once a power house in Women's football on the African continent, finishing runners-up on three occasions, but have been struggling in recent times, hence couldn't qualify for the 2012 championship held in Equatorial Guinea.
