Avram Grant, one of the shortlisted candidates for the Ghana national team job has upped his CV by leading unheralded BEC Tero to triumph in Thailand’s Toyota Cup final.

Grant's side defeated 4-time defending champion, league champions and overwhelming favourites, Buriram United 2-0 in front of a 50,000 capacity crowd in Bangkok.

“I’m delighted for the players, the supporters and the owner. To beat the holders so convincingly is a great achievement. The atmosphere was as good as I’ve experienced,” said the man who led English Premier League side, Chelsea to the 2008 UEFA Champions' League final.

It was Avram Grant’s second trophy in three years since last working in the Premier League having also guided Partizan Belgrade to the Serbian league title with a record points total in 2012.

The latest achievement whilst it enhances his chances of landing the Black Stars job he has been shortlisted to be interviewed for on Saturday, also puts the Israeli tactician in a tight corner as BEC Tero owner, Brian Marcar who is eyeing a long term working relationship with Avram Grant.

“Avram has helped us to deliver to the supporters our first trophy for 12 years," Brian Marcar said.

"We have a lot of good young players in Thailand but what we don’t have is good teachers, that’s why it’s so important to attract people like Avram Grant to come and work here," the BEC Tero chief continued..

"It’s all about building for next season now and I’m looking forward to a very bright future at the club," he added.
