GFA President has announced, the Tamale Sports Stadium will be the venue for Ghana’s clash with Togo’s Hawks in November in an endorsement of a highly-rated reception the Black Stars received in the Northern regional capital Wednesday.
An elated Kwesi Nyantakyi confirmed this to Metro TV after Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars secured a good win over Guinea to enhance their chances of qualifying for Morocco 2015.
Residents of Tamale lived up to their promise to adore the team and adorn the Tamale stadium in the beautiful national colours. It was the first time the Black Stars played before their fans in Tamale.
Fans in motorcades ushered the team bus to Tamale and the regional capital was literally drained of people after the game kicked off.Abdul Majeed Waris, Mubarak Wakaso, Abdul Rahman and the Ayew Brothers are the five players who hail from Tamale and hailed the decision to play there as a dream come true.
The team responded beating Guinea 3-1 to top their group.
The Black Stars moved from playing their home matches in Accra after what analyst say was lackadiscal support for the team.
They pitched a new home in the heartbeat of Ghana’s football passion, Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.
But after a poor World Cup campaign in Brazil in June this year, the love turned sour. The team in their first qualifying match against Uganda had to play against their opponents the Ugandan Cranes and against a hostile fans who booed the team.
The 20,000 seater stadium in Tamale could now be vying for the position of the Black Stars third fan 'affair'
