An Accra Fast Track high court is to hear a contempt case involving the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Paul Acquah.
The suit filed by Rockshell International, construction firm seeks to commit the Governor of the central bank to prison for his failure to comply with a court order.
A judgement against the Attorney General in 2006 instructed the Bank of Ghana to pay an amount of GH¢700,000 to Rockshell in respect of the construction of the Keta Sea Defence project.
Counsel for Rockshell says although the firm got the ruling some two years ago, the money has not been paid, compelling its general manager to go to court to ask for the conviction of the governor, Dr Acquah for contempt.
An earlier ex-parte motion filed by Rockshell had been demanding the payment of the amount due it for work done on the sea defence project.
In the January 22 hearing Dr Acquah, who was present in court, filed his affidavit in opposition.
Lawyers who represented Rockshell told the court that they needed some time to study the affidavit filed by the bank in opposition to their suit.
It is however unlikely Dr Acquah will be present in court because he sought permission of the court to be absent at the January 26 hearing.
On November 20, 2006, Rockshell obtained judgment against the Attorney General and Bank of Ghana at an Accra High Court for payment of the GH¢ 700,000.
When the government failed to pay the money Rockshell commenced proceedings against the central bank BOG.
The Ghana New Agency reported that high court on January 9, this year, ordered the Bank of Ghana to release the GH¢ 700,000 into an account referred to as Contingency Operational Account 0121360058002 to Rockshell.
Rockshell said despite numerous visits by its General Manager to the office of BoG the money due them had not been paid.
