A taskforce has been formed in Tamale to enforce the strike action announced by public sector workers across the country.
Members of the taskforce will from tomorrow move from office-to-office, school-to-school, hospital-to-hospital to drive away public sector workers who would disrespect the call for strike, Joy News' Northern Regional correspondent, Martina Bugri reported.
They also intend to educate the errant workers about the pension schemes, and what they claim is government's poor handling of it.
Some 12 public sector workers associations, including GES,NAGRAT, CLOGSAG, Judicial workers etc have announced an indefinite strike action in protest of government's handling of their Tier Two pension scheme.
The workers say they have no idea how much has been accrued to the pension fund.
They have been angered further by comments by the Labour and Employment Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, that government cannot trust the management of the pension scheme in the hands of the workers union.
Even though the strike was rather slow in Accra on the first day, it has begun gaining momentum with the premier hospital in the country; Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, said to be deserted.
It appears workers in the Northern Region are yet to fully comply.
Martina Bugri said the taskforce has been formed for two reasons- get the workers to comply and then educate them about the implications of government's handling of the pension scheme.
The workers say unless government pays up their pension funds they will continue with the strike.
