Thirty-two residents of Premoase and surrounding communities in Sene District of Brong Ahafo Region have attended a 10-day soap making training workshop to empower them economically.
It was organised by Methodist Church of Ghana in collaboration with the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) and Sene District Assembly.
Addressing the closing session, Madam Agnes Acheampong, a Resource Person urged the participants to take advantage of the market and create jobs for themselves to improve their living standards.
Mr Atta Boakye, Head of BAC Programme in the district said about 655 residents in the district had benefited from skill training in batik tie and dye, bee keeping and mushroom cultivation.
Mr Boakye said other 133 residents had benefited from small business management training in good record keeping, saving habits and customer care since inception of the programme in 2004.
Mr Vincent Banges, Deputy Sene District Co-ordinating Director, said majority of the people depended on agriculture; there was therefore the need to supplement their incomes during the off-season.
He appealed to government to support the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) and its subsidiaries such as BAC to provide the people with the needed skills to empower them economically.
Mr Banges said establishment of BAC and its affiliates could help reduce poverty in the country when beneficiaries became self employed.
Mr Kwadwo Samuel, Course Prefect, expressed appreciation to the Methodist Church, the government and the sponsors for empowering them to be self employed to improve their for living standards.
