Mr Imoro Sumani Issahaku, Headmaster of Yendi Senior High School in an address said there was unhealthy rivalry between the two schools as a result of the chieftaincy problems in the area.
He said that it was realized that it was cost effective if the two schools pooled their resources to organise a joint competition to save cost and bring healthy rivalry amongst the students and schools.
The Headmaster said that the mutual collaboration has worked well to their expectations because the unhealthy rivalry between the two schools has ceased with a renewed interaction among the students.
Mr Issahaku said that the peaceful atmosphere between the students of the two schools has trickled down to the community to bring peace among the supporters of the two schools.
He used the occasion to appeal to the Municipal and District Assemblies in the Eastern corridor, non-governmental organizations, students and individuals to assist Yendi Senior High School with sporting equipment.
The Headmaster said this is because all the nine Senior High Schools in Zone Six of the Eastern corridor depend on the Yendi Senior High School for most of their sporting equipment.
On the academic performance of the school, Mr Issahaku said there has been remarkable improvement over the past three years in the performance of the students in the West African Examination Council Certificate.
He said the student’s academic performance and improvement has been due to the current discipline in the school.
The Headmaster stated that both parents and the school management have jointly made discipline an effective tool combined with academic excellence.
The Board Chairman of Yendi Senior High School, Walana Abdulai Sulemana congratulated the athletes for maintaining discipline throughout the competition.
Walana Sulemana urged them to maintain the spirit of good sportsmanship and train hard towards the Inter-Regional competition.
He advised the students to take their studies serious alongside their sporting activities.
