A 35-year-old farmer, Mohammed Fuseini, has appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court, charged with cutting some rail lines of the Ghana Railways Company.Fuseini pleaded not guilty to intentionally and unlawfully cutting and damaging the rail lines with a hacksaw.Police Chief Inspector Asuotwene, prosecuting, told the court that the Unit Committee at Afarikrom near Asuotwene had information that certain unidentified persons had cut the rails near the village with a hacksaw. He said on receipt of the information, they informed the Asamankese Police Commander who advised them to mobilize the inhabitants to be extra vigilant in apprehending those committing the crime. The prosecutor said on February 13 at about 2200 hours, Fuseini and two others, now at large, led a group of people from Akyem Oda on a KIA truck with registration number GS 1668 Y to a place near Afarikrom. On reaching a point, the driver who had not been informed earlier that he was to convey stolen items refused to continue the journey. The situation generated a serious argument between the driver and the occupants of the vehicle which attracted the inhabitants. The inhabitants quickly organized a road block and when the driver decided not to be part of the crime and was going back, the gang was forced to halt at the road block. The occupants of the vehicle, however, managed to escape but Fuseini was unlucky and he was arrested.Police are making efforts to arrest the accomplices of Fuseini.Source: GNA
