Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-In-Chief and Publisher of the New Crusading Guide, is head-over-heels in love with a spicy damsel and would be wedding her this Sunday at a popular venue in Labone, Accra. Mr. Baako, News-One gathered, already has a child with the lady, and that the offspring was out-doored at their Spintex Road residence in Accra sometime last December. The two-tier wedding ceremony, slated for Sunday April 12, would involve an Islamic marriage ritual in the morning and then a secular high profile dinner in Labone later in the evening. Leading political figures as well as the cream de la cream of the media fraternity are expected to be at the ceremony and reports say the multi-millionaire Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim; owner of the Pier Hotel that was demolished ten years ago on the orders of former President Jerry John Rawlings, would be acting as Mr. Baako’s father at Sunday’s wedding. In July last year, Mr. Baako converted from Christianity to Islam and reports say the decision was largely influenced by his love for the spicy lady and his desire to marry her so they could live happily together ever after. Kweku Baako publicly announced that his name had changed to Malik Kweku Baako and that he had completely stopped drinking any alcoholic beverage, including his usual daily shots of brandy. Close sources say the senior Editor cum publisher, since his conversion, has undergone a crash course in Islamic lessons and had become rather pious. When news broke last year that Mr. Baako had converted to Islam, he explained that: “My conversion to Islam is a private affair, not subject to public discourse. However I thank all those who have expressed positive vibes on the matter. May Allah shower His blessings and mercies on all of them.” Prior to his conversion, Mr. Baako was fond of using Islamic expressions when contributing to discussions as a panel member, either on radio or on television. One of his popular expressions had been “Laa Illah Illa Ilah … Mohammadu Rasu’ lu lah”, meaning there is no God worthy of worship and Mohamed is His Prophet. Malik Baako, is in his mid-50s and won the coveted Ghana Journalist of the Year award in 1999. He describes himself as a ‘Political Animal’ and is the son of the late Kofi Baako, a Minister of State under Kwame Nkrumah-led Convention people’s Party (CPP) government.
