Military recruits whose training was suspended by the Ghana Armed Forces have appealed to the Military High Command and the Ministry of Defense to recall them without any further delay.The 420 recruits who were issued letters on January 3, 2009 for their pre-enlistment training had their programme cancelled at the Elwak Stadium while investigations into their engagement started.The head of the Public Relations Directorate at the Ghana Armed Forces, Col. Emmanuel Nibo said a five-member committee set up by the Military High Command to investigate the circumstances surrounding the recruitment of the would-be trainees is ready with its report, three months on.While details of the report are yet to be made public, the distraught recruits say conditions are getting stressful for them by the day.Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah who spoke to some of the applicants on Friday said some had complained they had had to resign from their jobs to pursue the programme and were beside themselves with grief.“I had to go and borrow money and I am indebted to a credit union,” one recruit told Ohemeng.The botched training programme sparked a lot of debate in the media as the opposition New Patriotic Party suspected political manipulation by the ruling party.Meanwhile officials of the National Democratic Congress say the incident was purely a decision by the Military High Command.Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com
