The race for the new national party executives for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is getting keener and more nasty by the day, with allegations and counter allegations being made by the aspirants.
Incumbent chairman Dr Kwabena Adjei, who is seeking reelection, has had enough of what he says is the exploitation and monetisation of the party's internal elections and wants the party to be cleansed.
According to him, the party has been infiltrated by persons who see the NDC as a money making machine and are busy cashing in.
"They are engaging in vote-buying, character assassination, vile propaganda. We don't come from that tradition," he alleged.
He claimed such people do not even pay dues and yet they want to be paid.
Speaking to Joy News' Fred Smith, the party chair said such persons must be ready to conform or get out of the party.
His comments come only four days to the party's much anticipated National Delegates Congress to elect new members.
He is one of four candidates contesting the party's top job. The others include, NADMO boss Kofi Portuphy, Party guru Alhaji Hudu Yahya, and former Trade Minister Dan Abodakpi.
Ahead of the elections, Dr Kwabena Adjei said all contestants must subscribe to the philosophies of the party or be shipped out.
He is convinced he is the man to pursue the vision of the NDC and has called on delegates to retain him in office.
He is set to announce major constitutional reforms on Saturday geared towards putting everybody in check.
In a reaction however former MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu said while there is vote buying, vile propaganda and monetization within the NDC, the crimes are not being committed by infiltrators.
On the contrary, he said, those crimes are being committed by the same old NDC members who have changed their philosophies and abandoned the philosophy of probity and accountability which formed the basis upon which the NDC was established.
He wondered why the party chairman is now raising those issues at the eleventh hour to a major election.
