Ghana defender Daniel Amartey is out of danger after scans revealed his injury is not as serious as initially feared our sources within camp can reveal.
The 20-year-old was hurled off before halftime in the win over South Africa on Tuesday with a suspected muscle tear in his thigh.
Amartey needed the help of his teammates to get onto the team bus after the game in Mongomo.
Black Stars team doctor Baba Adamu accompanied the FC Copenhagen man to the hospital on Wednesday morning to conduct further tests on the injury.
The results came clean – confirming the reliable defender has not suffered a muscle tear as suspected.
The news came as a massive relief to the entire team who were anxiously waiting for the news of the test results at their Mongomo Hotel.
Amartey has been one of the star performers for the team at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
He has until his injury played in every single minute of Ghana’s improving campaign in Equatorial Guinea.
Ghana now faces the winner of Group D (Mali, Cameroon, Ivory Coast or Guinea) in the fourth quarterfinal, which will be played in Malabo on February 1.
