Ahead of Ghana’s semi- final clash with host nation Equatorial Guinea, most Ghanaians foresee a repeat of bad officiating as it was administered against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the quarter final stage.
The Black Stars will be up against the host nation on Thursday in a crunchy game. It is believed that all the odds will be against the Ghanaians.
Host nation support and biased officiation are two predictable challenges Ghana could face.
This assertion comes when after Tunisia leading 1-0; Mauritian referee Rajindraparsad Seechurn awarded the home team a highly questionable penalty in the last minute of normal time in the quarterfinal.
Equatorial Guinea equalized from the spot-kick and went on to win 2-1 in extra time to reach the semis for the first time.
Seechurn’s decision sparked ugly scenes as players and coaching staff members brawled on the sidelines on a number of occasions and threw water bottles at each other.
Tunisian players attacked the referee at the end of the game and had to be beaten back by riot police in the chaos at Bata Stadium.
With this, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) is being urged to appoint a credible referee to handle Ghana’s game
