FIFA have confirmed they have begun "disciplinary proceedings" regarding the complaints made by Senegal over Diafra Sakho.
A spokesman for the game's governing body revealed this morning that they would be investigating the situation, which saw Sakho feature for West Ham at Ashton Gate 48 hours before Senegal were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations.
"We can confirm that disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the player Diafra Sakho and the club West Ham United for a potential violation of the FIFA regulations on the status and transfer of players," said a spokesman this morning.
Senegal are understood to have issued their complaint after Sakho scored West Ham's winner in their FA Cup fourth round tie at Bristol City.
Sam Allardyce and West Ham insist they have not broken and rules, but refrained from fielding Sakho at Anfield on Saturday after receiving notification of an impending investigation by FIFA.
