The Black Stars are sweating on the fitness of skipper Asamoah Gyan as the side goes into battle against hosts Equatorial Guinea on Thursday with a final place at stake.
The striker was caught by Guinea goalkeeper Naby Yattara in the dying embers of the game against Guinea, an action which saw Yattara receiving his marching orders.
At a recovery session on Monday, Head Coach Avram Grant revealed that the player had travelled to Mongomo for a Magnetic Resonance Imagery scan to assess the extent of his injury.
“I am not too sure if he is going to be available. We are doing all the medicals on the player to ensure that he is fit for Thursday’s game. We are awaiting the results of the scan and then I would be in the position to know whether I can count on him on Thursday,” he said.
Gyan missed Ghana’s opening CAN encounter against Senegal due to Malaria and the nation would be keeping her fingers crossed, desperate to see its iconic skipper in action against the hosts who have surprised all and sundry by making it to the semi final stage of the competition.
