Government through the Education Ministry has resourced the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) with 20 new Isuzus double cabin pick-up vehicles.
The vehicles funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is the largest number of vehicles the Authority has received since its inception 70 years ago.
The fleet of cars was handed over to the Authority at the Independence Square on Thursday by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on behalf of President Akufo-Addo.
He said the President believes that if the country nation is to make any headway in its quest for economic development and building a resilient society, then attention must be paid to the advancement of human capital.
“It is not enough to put students in schools, therefore there must be a clear and purpose drive to ensure more learning outcomes,” he noted

The Vice President commended the Education Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his tireless effort in promoting education in Ghana.
The Executive Director of the GhLA, Hayford Siaw, speaking after the handing stated that; the 20 pick- up trucks will enhance the Authority’s objective in promoting literacy and life-long learning.
“The role of libraries in education cannot be over-emphasized, hence as part of our 2020 Year of Learning activities, the Authority wants to make sure every Ghanaian benefit from library services.
"These vehicles will aid us in transporting books and monitoring our libraries, especially in those rural areas,” he added.
A total number of 365 Isuzu Double cabin pick-up trucks and 493 motorbikes were handed over to the educational sector.
Out of the 365 pick-up trucks, 260 were allocated to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Offices and remaining 105 were allocated to the Ministry of Education and its agencies.
This is in fulfilment of the President’s commitment to ensure that that education sector is well resourced to deliver improved learning outcomes in Ghana.
