Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has written to the Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye on measures that should be taken to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in Ghana.
Among other things the Tamale South MP wrote in his memo that the national plan to fight the pandemic “must address the requisite behavioural and medical interventions needed to contain the spread of the virus and to mitigate its consequences for affected persons.”
This, he said must necessarily encompass: “an aggressive public education campaign on preventive behaviours that are centered on hand hygiene that details proper hand washing, avoidance of face touching, and the use of appropriate commercial or home-made hand sanitisers.”
The legislator was, however, critical of the ‘Imposition of Restrictions Bill’ which has since been passed into law.
“We must state, however, our conviction that the introduction of the proposed Imposition of Restrictions Bill by the Presidency is premature and unnecessary,” he wrote.
He reiterated NDC officials’ concerns about the contents of the law with respect to the COVID-19.
